Mikumi National Park is one of the most accessible parks in Tanzania. A tarmac road connects Mikumi to Dar es Salaam via Morogoro, approximately 4 hours drive.The park is the fourth largest National Park in Tanzaniacovering an area of 3,230 km² and bordering the UdzungwaMountains and Uluguru Mountain,it shares the name ‘Mikumi’ with the village just beyond its Western border of the Dar es Salaam – Iringa highway.It makes a perfect safari goal for those who are busy and have less time to travel, one day can get you an opportunity to explore the splendor of mikumi national park. But it is recommended to spend at least a night in Mikumi to enjoy a fulfilling game drive in this beautiful park.
Mkata Floodplain, the star attraction at Mikumi National Park, has often been compared to the great Serengeti because of its amazing diversity and concentrated wildlife.This alone makes Mikumi worth visiting.The park is also popular for presenting stunning photo ops and large herds of game animals.
Wildlife Highlights
The park is rich in wildlife – waterbuck, eland, buffalo, hippo, baboons, sable antelope, lions, leopard, wild dogs, wildebeest, zebra, impala, giraffe, warthogs, and elephants which can easily be viewed all the year round also the Greater Kudu can be sighted rare. Reptiles including crocodiles, monitor lizards and pythons are also resident in the park as are over 400 recorded species of birdlife. Among the bird species are the colorful residents such as the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated long claw and butler eagle joined by a host of European migrants during the rainy season.

When to go:
June to October is the best time to visit Mikumi National Park. During the dry season, the wildlife concentrate around waterholes and rivers – making it easier to spot them.
